NIGERIAN OFFICIALS MEET WITH ATHENS FIRM AND UNIVERSITY OF GEORGIA

Armentrout Roebuck Matheny Consulting Group, P.C. (ARMCG), an Athens-based engineering/architecture/ construction management firm hosted a group of officials from the Ministry of Environment of Nigeria as they visited the United States.  The objective of the delegation’s visit was to learn about U.S. technologies in the environmental sector from ARMCG and other local experts.    The delegation met with professors from the University of Georgia Department of Biological Sciences & Agricultural Engineering: Dr. Matt Smith, Dr. Brahm Verma and Dr. K.C. Das who discussed new advances in technology which will be useful to the Nigerian Ministry of Environment.  The Nigerian group also toured the Athens-Clarke County recycling and wastewater treatment facilities with a stop in Savannah to visit that City’s waste-to-energy facility.

According to Bret Thurmond, P.E., ARMCG’s Business Development Director, “This visit by the Nigerian delegation is an important step in our efforts to assist in improving the country’s infrastructure.  We look forward to working with the leaders of Nigeria to accomplish this objective.”

Some of the delegates included Professor O.A. Afolabi who is the Director of the Environmental Monitoring Department (EMD) of the Federal Ministry of Environment in Nigeria (which is equivalent to the Environmental Protection Agency in the United States); Dr. Onyekwelu who is the Deputy Director of EMD; Engineer Ayodele Ibrahin, Vice President of Civtra International; Dr. Henry O. Sawyerr, President of Applied Environmental Solutions, Inc.; and Engineer O. Onolaja who is the Executive Director of Applied Environmental Solutions, Limited, in Nigeria.
